Therapy Aide

Part-time, 20 hours per week. Wednesdays, 8-9 hours; other days and hours can be flexible up to 20 per week.

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs various patient and departmental activities related to patient rehabilitation under the guidance and direction of a PT/OT Therapist.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 16 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent, preferred
  • Heartsaver CPR, preferred
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology, preferred
  • Previous Therapy Aide experience, preferred

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepares the patient for the prescribed therapy treatment.

  • Assists patient with admission process.
  • Accompanies patient to and from treatment area.
  • Prepares the patient and necessary equipment for the prescribed treatment.
  • Ensures treatment areas are cleaned before and after treatment.

 

Implements and assists with patient treatment as directed by Therapist.

  • Performs modalities and procedures with regard to time duration, frequency and dosage.
  • Initiates patient’s treatment when plan of care is already established.

 

Promotes and ensures patient and staff safety in all aspects of responsibilities.

  • Administers treatments and procedures in a timely and safe manner according to health care provider orders.
  • Utilizes proper body mechanics, transfer/lifting techniques to minimize fall risk to patient and injury to self.
  • Uses National Patient Safety Goals (for critical access hospitals) to ensure patient safety.
  • Implements infectious disease controls as appropriate including isolation procedures, proper use of hand washing and gloves.

 

Communicates effectively.

  • Communicates and collaborates effectively with other health team members regarding patient condition, patient satisfaction needs and recommendations for meeting identified outcomes.
  • Follows approved shift report format when communicating patient information.
  • Identifies and recognizes abnormal symptoms/changes in patient condition, established priorities and takes appropriate action.
  • Appropriately reports condition changes to therapist.

 

Performs various clerical duties.

  • Assists in maintaining complete clinical records.
  • Assists with answering phones and other clerical tasks.
  • Prepares daily charge sheets collects and ensures accuracy.
  • Completes requisition forms for department supplies, equipment and repairs as necessary.
  • Ensures all files have referral forms (plan of care) signed by the health care provider for the appropriate treatments.
