Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our operating room team. In this role, you will provide comprehensive nursing care to patients during the pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative surgical experiences. You will manage the non-sterile field and assist in maintaining the sterile field during procedures. The position also involves ensuring safe recovery from anesthesia and monitoring for any potential post-surgical complications.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Pre-operative, Intra-operative, and Post-operative Care:
    • Provide professional nursing care to patients and plan to meet their total nursing needs.
    • Prepare surgical equipment, assist healthcare providers during treatments, and assess patient conditions.
    • Observe vital signs and respond to life-saving situations as per hospital policies.
    • Assist in positioning the patient, prepping the surgical site, and ensuring patient safety.
    • Stay with patients during anesthesia induction and extubation.
    • Monitor for any post-operative complications, including pain management and infection prevention.
    • Assist with dressing application, and complete sponge, needle, and instrument counts.
  2. Patient Education:
    • Create individualized patient education plans as prescribed by healthcare providers.
    • Explain procedures and treatments to patients and their families, ensuring understanding and cooperation.
  3. Sterilization and Equipment Management:
    • Ensure proper sterilization of equipment and check sterilization dates and integrity.
    • Assist with cleaning and restocking the operating room and supply rooms.
    • Maintain knowledge of sterilization techniques, including the use of flash autoclave.
  4. Anesthesia and Recovery:
    • Understand the type of anesthesia administered and monitor interactions with medications.
    • Control post-operative pain and monitor for complications.
    • Ensure patients maintain stable respiratory and cardiac function during recovery.
  5. Documentation and Communication:
    • Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient responses.
    • Collaborate effectively with healthcare teams to communicate patient conditions and care plans.
  6. Safety and Compliance:
    • Maintain patient and staff safety by following safety protocols and infection control measures.
    • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed and in compliance with nursing policies.
    • Follow all patient safety goals, including the proper handling of narcotics, sharps, and hazardous materials.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Nebraska.
  • Proficiency in sterile and aseptic techniques, including knowledge of cautery and audiovisual equipment.
  • Ability to take call and respond within 30 minutes.
  • Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Previous operating room experience is preferred.
