FUNCTION: Maintenance personnel will serve as representatives of the City Board he/she will have charge of all work on streets, maintenance of parks, city buildings, water and sewer systems, pool and tree dump. He/she will perform related work as required and report directly to the Mayor & the City Board. Job duties will include, but not be limited to, the following:
1. Formulate and bring to the attention of the City Council, immediate maintenance needs of the City.
2. Perform work to maintain streets, street signs, ditches, and culverts.
3. Ensure that ditches, culverts and drains function properly and are kept in good repair.
4. Assist with mowing, weed control, and/or watering of the parks, ball fields, and other city owned properties.
5. Control and maintain the Cities water and sewer systems and be responsible for their operation.
6. Take water and wastewater samples per State regulations and submit them to the proper authority.
7. Perform maintenance and upkeep on the city wells, lift station and lagoon.
8. Turn water service on for new residents and shut water service off as directed.
9. Supervise sewer hook-ups and new water hook-ups.
10. Perform repairs and/or replacement of water and sewer lines.
11. Perform all seasonal related jobs such as winterizing pool, pool house, concession stand, snow removal, grading of alleys, etc.
12. Be responsible for the general upkeep of all parks, including tennis courts, basketball hoops, playground equipment, and picnic areas.
13. Control the tree dump and ensure compliance with all regulations related thereto.
14. Maintain and repair equipment such as skid steer, excavator, mowers, pickups, tractors, plow trucks and any other equipment owned by the city.
15. Enforce City’s animal control ordinances, including catching and caring for dogs running at large.
16. Attending City Board Meetings and provide a monthly maintenance report as instructed by the Mayor.
17. Perform special assignments as directed by the City Council and/or Mayor.
18. Keep records of all work completed on daily time sheets.
19. Scoop snow from sidewalks of City owned property such as Community Building and Fire Station/City Hall.
20. Clean city’s maintenance shop, vehicles, and equipment.
21. You will be required to get your Water and Wastewater Operators License.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
1. Considerable knowledge of mechanical operations and possess aptitude for mechanical performance.
2. Needs to be certified in water and waste water operation or be willing to take a course to become certified.
3. Must be able to operate all types of equipment.
4. Ability to accept assignments in any area designated by the Mayor and/or City Council.
5. Ability to be flexible, maintain sensitivity and objectivity.
6. Ability to effectively supervise and maintain effective relationships with other employees, community residents, City Council and Mayor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Customer service and communication skills.
2. Ability to operate vehicles, machinery, equipment, and tools needed to perform job duties.
3. Ability to work alone or with others and have self-accountability.
4. Physically and emotionally able to perform his/her duties.
5. Basic math and English skills.
6. Have a valid driver’s license.
