Medical Lab Scientist

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs a full range of diagnostic testing on patient specimens and ensures testing is conducted in an accurate, efficient and timely manner that facilitates positive patient care. Interacts directly with medical staff members in interpretation and follows up on patient results. Works with other departments in scheduling, performing and reporting tests. Performs waived moderate and high complexity testing according to CLIA regulations without supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or closely related subject; OR equivalent combination of licensure/certification/education and experience (one year of education equals one year of experience)
  • Active American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification preferred
  • Board registered or board eligible as a Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist through one of the national registries associated with laboratory practice (ASCP, NCA, AMT) or equivalent; OR be certified by HHS (HEW) by testing and experience prior to 1994.
  • Qualifies to do high complexity testing under 42CFR493.1489(b)
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to lab
  • Must be able to take call and respond within 30 minutes
  • Previous phlebotomy experience preferred
  • Previous medical technologist experience preferred

 

Medical Lab Technician

JOB SUMMARY:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree in Medical Lab Technician OR equivalent experience practicing as an MLT prior to April 24, 1995 with documented training and competency in laboratory testing per CFR 493.1489 required
  • Board registered or eligible for registry as MLT with one of the national registries associated with laboratory practice (ASCP, NCA, AMT, etc)
  • Qualifies to do high complexity testing under 42CFR493.1489(b)
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to lab
  • Must be able to take call and respond within 30 minutes
  • Previous MLT experience preferred
  • Active American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification preferred
