Emergency Preparedness Coordinator

Position Summary

Boone County Health Center is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Emergency Preparedness Coordinator to lead and manage our emergency readiness initiatives. In this critical role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive emergency preparedness program tailored to the needs of a Critical Access Hospital (CAH). You will ensure the hospital’s compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and prepare staff and operations to respond effectively to emergencies, including natural disasters, pandemics, and mass casualty incidents.


Key Responsibilities

Plan Development & Implementation

  • Develop and maintain the hospital’s Emergency Operations Plan (EOP)
  • Ensure compliance with CMS Emergency Preparedness Rule, OSHA, TJC, and state-specific guidelines
  • Lead Hazard Vulnerability Assessments (HVA) annually or as needed

Training & Exercises

  • Design and conduct emergency drills (tabletop, functional, full-scale) at least twice per year
  • Provide staff training in ICS and NIMS to ensure compliance
  • Maintain thorough documentation for all drills and training activities

Coordination & Communication

  • Serve as the primary liaison with local, regional, and state emergency management partners
  • Represent the hospital in healthcare coalitions and emergency planning committees
  • Support and coordinate hospital participation in broader regional response initiatives

Resource Management

  • Maintain emergency supplies and ensure readiness of backup systems (e.g., generators, communication devices)
  • Contribute to Continuity of Operations Planning (COOP) and surge capacity strategies

Compliance & Reporting

  • Maintain preparedness for inspections, surveys, and audits
  • Generate reports for leadership and regulatory agencies as needed
  • Stay informed of regulatory updates and best practices in emergency management


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required
  • Prior experience in healthcare or a Critical Access Hospital (CAH), strongly preferred
  • Completion of FEMA ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 required (or within 6 months of hire)
  • ICS 300/400 certification, preferred
  • Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills
